    come on man
I know he wasn't in his best condition, i was using Ali's situation as an example of how fighters falsely proclaim their ability in their older years.

        Ali
        And possibly Joe Louis.

        Anyone else got some ideas.
        - -Good question on the surface, but Zaire was an odd, one off conflagration that greatly favored Ali over George because of circumstances at the time.

More telling is this the fight making the legend of Ali that was his downfall whereas it ultimately became a sorta resurrection for George.

Ali ducked the rematch where he could never capture lightning in a bottle again.

Do you believe George was drugged?

Supposedly he claims Dick slipped him a Mickey Flynn

          • Actually not very true.

When a boxer fights a huge puncher a larger ring size can only help the boxer. In Zaire the ring was “postage stamp size” as per the ref Zach Clayton. Zach further stated that he never before had worked in a smaller ring.

Secondly the ring canvas was heavily padded that night. A heavily padded canvas is kryptonite for a boxer as side to side movement is extremely tiring.

So the idea that the deck was stacked somehow in Ali’s favor in terms of ring conditions is in actuality not true.

            • Foreman stated on the Art Rust radio show back during the start of his comeback that all the talk of being drugged etc was excuses he made up to try to justify his loss to Ali. He stated further that Ali was a 215 pound heavyweight and there was “just so many right hands he could take”.

              • Starting from absolute annihilation down to it's a long shot, but not impossibility:

                Fury
                Vitali
                Wlad
                Wilder
                Joshua
                Lewis
                Holmes
                Tyson
                Golota
                Quarry

                  - -Yeah, like you can remember some obscure radio interview from 35 years ago.

Continue to ignore Angelo and Bundini loosened the ropes that Jimmy Young later used to clown Ali.

George Plimpton cried out in the opening Minute that the fix was in, and my impression was George was drugged before I ever heard the drugging allegations.

Ali being feted and housed at the murderous Mugabe palace while George squirreled away in abandoned army barracks at gunpoint.

The outrages have been well documented for ages now, yet you never outgrew your adolescent adulation that plagues many Americans stilted in growth and withering on the Vine.

All credit to the toughness of Ali, but last I checked other tough guys like Saad Muhammed weren't accorded elite status like Ali.

                  • Again Foreman himself stated all his talk about being drugged, loose ropes was just trying to justify his ko loss to Ali. Further he said that Ali was a 215 pound heavyweight and their were just so many right hands he could take. Their is no evidence that Dundee loosened any ropes that night. The ropes were designed for a much larger ring hence the sag.

                      - -Prefight negotiations:

Ali wanted a 20', George wanted 18', so they commissioned Everlast to custom build a 19' ring and shipped it to Zaire.

Only thing postage stamp is your IQ that allows you to believe whatever it is you make up. Dundee and Bundini lossened the ropes like they tried to do to Frazier at MSG before Teddy Brenner caught them red handed and kicked them out until the fight.

The fight was delayed near 6 Wks after George suspiciously cut open in sparring with an elbow. Dick Sadler was a turncoat who had been working in the Ali camp setting up the fight before Zaire.

George could only run and smash up the heavy bag. Meanwhile Ali been specifically training to lay and sit on the loose ropes. In fact, even in prime undefeated itineration he was known primarily for that in sparring. He could never be taught strategy by Dundee any more than his teachers in HS could, the reason he ditched Archie Moore early on.

Dundee could only make suggestions and hope Ali might remember at critical moments. Dundee main task was setting up camp, running interference with the ref and officials, and tricks like breaking out now illegal smelling salts like when Cooper deposited him on his posterior.
