no-code coward he is. In comparison...
JMM was a "boring", technical counterpuncher up until very recently.
Like other peoples, Mexicans may have their share of people who
watch fights for excitement rather than for displays of technical skill.
JMM was (and still is) a whiner, and possibly a dick-gargling queer, but
he could arguably be the best P4P boxer today --if only he could harness
all that natural talent, skill and durability, and find some way to beat that
supposedly inferior, one-dimensional brawler, Pacquiao.
He'll get yet another chance (he's already had two) to do so. Soon.
In fact, chances are what it all boils down to.
Til recently, JMM hasn't had many real chances to excite the wider public.
It's a pity he was on the sidelines for so long, avoided as much for his
boxing skill as his supposedly-poor ability to draw sales, while peers like
Barrera and Morales played Mexico's heroes. It's a pity he ducked a Pac
rematch (yes, it's just as true as the fact that Pac has avoided JMM
after said rematch) for so long after their first bout.
Sadly for JMM, Pac will likely win again in their three-peat.
JMM is slower and less durable these days, if his showing against Diaz is
an indication. For all the rep Pac has gotten (deservedly in past years,
but less so today) for fearlessly facing the best, he and Roach know it's
in their best interest to face JMM later rather than sooner, as Marquez'
skills continue to decline.
Although being the last "great" Mexican fighter left has helped his
popularity w/ Mexicans, an absolute inability to beat Pacquiao, in their
prime or otherwise, will hang over him forever.
JMO, YMMV, etc.
