  • Why were people underrating Lomachenko’s defense and boxing skills pre-Rigo?

Right after Loma’s fight with Marriaga people were convinced that Rigo would outbox Loma. People saw Rigo as the superior boxer with better defense and better counterpunching skills while Loma had better offense, with size and youth. Basically people expected Loma to be the one to come forward, not once mentioning Loma’s boxing skills.

Why were people underrating Loma’s defense and boxing skills during the build up with Rigo? Not only did Loma dismantle Rigo he took the least amount of punishment out of all his fights and straight up schooled the “master boxer”, boxed circles around him and overwhelming him at the same time. Probably the best display of blending great defense and offense a la Pernell Whitaker.

It's because those 'people' have a premature and limited view of boxing. They lack a single standard in which to use to evaluate boxers. Instead, they pick and choose what standard to use whenever it suits their agenda.

Isn't that the guy from Ghost Dog? I don't get it, he has the best blend of offence and defence since a fictional character?

Whatever, probably a troll thread but yeah, Loma is pretty good FWIW

No one was underrating Lomachenko's defense and boxing skills pre-Rigo. The only reason a small minority thought Rigondeaux would win is because he was supposed to be just as skilled as Lomachenko.

Many of us knew Rigondeaux's size, age, and inactivity would be too much to overcome let alone the gap in skills.

The result was exactly how many people saw it would go. The actual fight itself failed to live up to the hype.

I never understood that. There was a thread were they compared their skills and gave Riggo an advantage over nearly everything.

Bingo. They didn't evaluate the match based on Boxing and just went with what they wanted to happen. The poster j.razor said as much he said he scores fights how he wanted them to go and picks them as he wants them to go and he's not alone.

Exactly, the fight was worse than May/Pac. Loma moved and threw more punches but both of them didn't land one meaningful punch.

Not everybody did. I never though Rigo would win and said I thought Loma would beat him whenever the fight was being discussed. Russian boxers are not liked by a lot of posters on here and don't get the credit they deserve. The better they are the more they are disliked. They aren't disliked by everyone but enough posters dislike them to make it very noticeable.

To be fair, it was hard to gauge just how big Loma's CAAAWK and how hard his BALLS OF STEEL were before the fight - we all learned during the fight though.
