He's still very much an ATG, but this thread calls for only a top twenty.

Did Ricardo Lopez have more ability than Roy Jones?

He certainly didn't have Roy's level of opposition.

How many Lopez fights have you watched? Not a rhetorical question.. I just want to know how many of his opponents you're familiar with.

I'd rank Jones' resume to be slightly higher... but honestly, how many true ATGs has Jones beaten??? An argument could be made that he beat only one.

I don't know about more ability, but he was technicall much more sound which is why Jones career went south so fast after his reflexes diminished.

Not many 'true ATGs' but the gap between the overall level of comp Roy faced and what Lopez faced is laughably in favor of Roy.

                Laughably.

Lopez had 7 defenses against fighters with 10 or fewer wins and five more title wins against guys with 14 or fewer wins.

It's also laughable to say he had more 'ability.' He was more fundamentally sound in a classic sense but Roy was hardly ever touched for about a decade with legit one punch power in three classes and some of the fastest hands in the history of the sport. Ability? Whatever.

Roy had a disappointing career at times and could have done much more, but it doesn't begin to compete with how much more Lopez could have done.

Both were ATGs of their own regard and I wouldn't have either top 20. I'd have Roy a hell of a distance in front of Lopez.

List was respectable enough until Dempsey, Tyson, and Marciano joined the party.

I still haven't got around to a top 20. It's just daunting. SO little to choose from among some of the true ATGs
