  • Is Canelo already a 1 or 2 fight a year fighter ?

Last time he fought was sept. we won't be seeing him again until may (8 months) it seems we won't be seeing him on hbo anymore ... If iit takes 3 months to properly promote a fight and then the most we can expect from him from this point on is about 2 fights a year barring any injuries.

Seems like he skipped a few steps on the way to superstardom.

Mayweather Jr. says it takes 6 months to promote a PPV fight, so if he's right... probably.

Canelo is officially one of the top draws of the sport. The real top draws[noticeraws, not best fighters] of the sport just fight 1-2 times a year. Because they make good money off of one fight.

Mayweather, Pacquiao, Cotto, Martinez, Canelo, Chavez Jr, these are the top draws of our sport. These guys in any combination can fight each other on PPV and get 500k-1million buys, with Cotto vs Martinez probably being the weakest one maybe falling short to 300-400k which is not bad either.

I would say Khan, Wlad, Donaire but these guys haven't shown to be top draws ratings wise, but Wlad definitely does tremendous numbers at the gate.

When he attracted 1.6 Million viewers against Matthew Hatton, had his own arena against Alfonso Gomez in the undercard of a Floyd PPV, and sold out the arena, is one of the top 3 most popular athletes in Mexico.

I think after May 4th he will be headlining his own PPV and he'll only be 23 years old which will put him on pace to headline his first PPV at the same age Oscar did against Ruelas.

                1. Rafael Ruelas (5/95) 330,000 buys = $9.9 million
                2. Genaro Hernandez (9/95) 220,000 buys = $6.6 million
                3. Miguel Angel Gonzalez (1/97) 345,000 buys = $12.1 million

De La Hoya's first 3 PPV's. Let's see if Canelo can do those type of numbers or better in his first PPV's.

I predict he will do better.

He fought 7 times in 2009, 5 times in 2010, 4 times in 2011 so in 2012 and 2013 he is slowing it down to two fights a year on the Mexican holidays in May and September. Two fights a year is about average for big money fighters these days.
