Assimilating to American culture is respecting the flag, constitution, and the rule of law, that is what binds us all together, since that is supposed to be the way of life in America.

For many immigrants it is leaving behind their destitute third world way of living. Practicing good hygiene for health and safety, learning commonly practiced customs, courtesies and social norms (like waiting your turn in line, putting your trash in a trash can, having consideration for others, monitoring and disciplining your children, etc), not forcing or expecting Americans to learn their language or accept extreme cultural or religious norms of the country they left behind.

I do believe that immigrants enhance America culturally, and make unique contributions to our country. The problem is, diversity and inclusion often excludes a certain demographic of Americans why bending over backwards for others.
