A cherry pick was Deontae Wilder fighting Owen "what the heck" Beck in his 15th fight... Seriously, wtf?!? Thompson was viewed as a very respectable contender - top 13-15 at that time? This was a "progression" fight... Where you transition from taking on D level bums to a solid, proven veteran at the C/B level.

And Pirog was known to have a very difficult style, and was seen as a test for the still green Jacobs to pass... This is NOT a cherry pick! These are typical "progression" fights a boxer takes as he moves up the ladder - if anything - Pirog was seen by most experts as a "high risk - low reward" type progression fight. Yeah it was for a world title, but Jacobs was pretty much unproven at that point too, not like he was a reigning champion, and purposely picked the weakest champion or something...

Also, Pac was a replacement opponent. Ledwaba did;t purposely choose him initially - he was the top contender available at that time, and pretty sure he was already like a world champ in at least one or two weight classes?

Ok, back to watching.. I hope the rest of this video is on point...

Lol jesus... again.. Lee/Quillen wasn't a cherry pick.. What it was, was a DUCK by Quillen... Yes a definite huge quack... a swerve for sure.

But Lee/Quillen was a legit fight, and seen as pretty much 50/50 going in. Lee was a hard-punching, tall southpaw olympian with a big amateur background who isn't an easy fight for anybody...

And Kirkland/Ishira wasn't a cherry pick - it was just another tuneup fight for Kirkland, who was still fresh out the joint...

I think this dude needs to evaluate the meaning of cherry pick - there are plenty of great examples out there - but he's misconstrued a lot here.

lee quillin was a cherry pick because quillin wasnt willing to fight korobov but was willing to fight lee cause he thought he was easier. same way floyd fought mosley but was scared to death of margs.

A lot of morons in here don't understand what cherry picking is, which is unsurprising.

A cherry pick is a fight you take when you have other options available which also make more sense, but you take the "easier" fight and usually also the less rewarding one.

Winning a cherry pick doesn't make it not a cherry pick, if it was more challenging than anticipated, it's a cherry pick. Period.

the "gone wrong" does imply the fight was lost by the cherry picker.

It also can't be a cherry pick if it's a mandatory or similar situation, as that conflicts with the definition itself, that there were other options.

-I love when cherry picking goes wrong, no matter the boxer.
-Hancho is becoming the p4p #1 in youtube boxing channels.
-If Diaz pulls the upset, he would become my favorite active boxer.
