  • Why is Cotto ranked No.1 at Middleweight?

Why is Cotto ranked No.1 at Middleweight over Gennady Golovkin just because he beat Sergio Martinez.

Anybody knows that Golovkin could have done the same thing, but Martinez was too scared to get in the ring with him. Also, it is quite obvious that Golovkin would destroy Cotto…well at least that is what I think.

But the main reason for saying this is that Cotto is not even willing to defend his title at 160 pounds against other top middleweights. How can he call himself a champion when he hasn't even won a fight at that division.

He could have but didn't. You can't be rewarded for things you never did.

Yes, but he won at a catchweight and he is not willing to defend the title at 160 pounds.

Step up and fight Golovkin or vacate.

Because Cotto beat Serg, who beat Kelly Pavlik (even if Pavlik was hitting the bottle.) Pavlik took the title from Jermain Taylor (a war.) Taylor, took it from B-hop (which I'd guess he'll put on his epitath.) Hopkins became THE Middleweight Champ by beating Felix Trinidad(a fight)filing the vacancy Toney made, I guess.

And that's how boxing lineage works.

Martinez, even the crippled version, was still regarded as the #1 fighter in the division.

                  Miguel took that spot.

It's all a bit silly, but that's boxing.

Boxing "historians" have a geek-ish attachment to lineal titles.

You have a situation at 175 where Sergey Kovalev holds 3 of the 4 titles and defending against top guys while Adonis Stevenson is ranked above for beating Chad Dawson who was coming off a damaging loss to Andre Ward.

Are we gonna pretend like Kovalev wouldn't have took Dawson's head off?

Yes we are apparently according to the various flawed rankings systems just like we're going to pretend a guy with one MW fight who has never fought at 160lbs is better than all the other MWs.
