  • Royce gracie is the greatest ufc fighter ever

Royce Gracie was the greatest UFC fighter ever. These young fans don't
understand how great he was.I remember watching all the first UFC tournaments as they were aired and you just couldn't believe what he was
doing. He was taking out one monster after another, even four in one night.
What made it so special was that EVERYONE growing up knew it was impossible
to beat up that big bully in high school that weighed 50 lbs more than you,but
Royce did the impossible, and took out the biggest and baddest. What people
don't understand is that knowing Gracie jui-jitsu does not guarantee victory.
At any time, another fighter could have punched or hit Royce and really
hurt him bad, even by accident.Royce is very mentally strong and I don't
think any other Gracie could have pulled off what he did except for Rickson.
His nephews and cousins today could never have done what he did.

    Brock Lesnar would smash him.

    JDS would Smash him

    Cain would smash him

Hell id even give big Timmey a 50 50 shot at beating him and he sucks donkey balls

So how can he be the greatest ever when he would loose so badly to so many other HW fighters?

^Just like in boxing, years from now that may not be how ATG's are ranked. If you rank fighters purely on their resume and how well did they did in their own eras, Royce is way up there. #1? (That seems aking to ranking Corbett or Jeffries as #1 HW's ever)No way for me but I can understand somebody else's nostalgia.

Because all those pin heads would beat him using Gracie Jiu-jitsu,just like Matt Hughes.
Don't use HIS Gracie Jui-Jitsu....then try to beat him...won't happen...

Yeah it would. Sakurara beat him using endurance and catch wrestling. I love Royce too, but others have achieved more and would beat him head to head, like Fedor, Anderson Silva, probably Frank Shamrock. He'll always be remembered as a legend, ATG and a pioneer of the sport though. If you want to pick him as a favorite, that would make more sense.

The early UFCs were set up to make him look good. There were tons of guys out there with judo and karate blackbelts who would have been able to stop his takedowns and defend against his subs and maybe sub him themselves. It's not like Royce was some world class grappler. They'd also be more than able to beat him up standing. The folks setting up the tournament put a bunch of people in against him that had no idea about grappling and less than no idea about submissions. Royce Gracie is a guy that convinced people that grappling is a martial art and is a pioneer in that respect, but we saw what Hughes did to him with just wrestling and punches.

                love royce.

                great fighter.

but not the greatest bjj guy.

he's good no doubt but all his brother and most his cousins and nephews is/was better than him.

the machados, carlos side and even his nephews would beat him.

take kron for example. much superior technique.

rorion's kids too are great bjj guys. what rorion lacked in fighting ability he made up for in knowledge of technique of the basics which he passed on to his kids.

royce's cousins like ryan (RIP) and renzo would mess royce up bad in mma.

only reason royce fought UFC was 1. his big bro rorion created it 2. rickson didn't want to do it 3. royce's other bros were too old, even rickson was already mid 30's by then.

                  nonsense.

few karate guys practice groundfighting and those who did wouldn't know what to do with a bjj black belt on the ground.

                  most judo guys neglected groundfighting.

royce was no world class bjj elite but he was good.

royce didn't fight the greatest competition but let's not act like the fights were fixed.

I think Gracie wins by DQ then doesn't he? Is that in the rule book?
