We have already arrived at social unrest, we cannot be any more divided. Nothing will change or improve until socialist politicians are pressured, ran out of office and shunned by the majority. Eventually, their strategy of giving away free everything will win over the masses and the country will come crumbling down. We are already cannibalizing ourselves. The dumbing down is working. The mouth-breathers already control the media, major cities and have become the gatekeepers of social media, fashion, education, and eventually government.

Are Socialist ideas really the problem here? Scandinavia is - by US standards - almost rabidly socialist yet somehow manage to be ranked about the happiest and most stable nations on earth. Does social responsibility and sharing both some of the wealth and some of the burden just not work under the conditions of the US and if not, why not?

Personally I agree with establishing a principle of fairness rather than equality and sociological research tends to show that countries where wealth and income are perceived to be fair (rather than equal as was previously thought) by it's citizens tend to be those with fewest social problems and highest levels of contentment.

When it comes to education they ain't to shabby either....

Look at the socialist model being presented by Sanders and Warren. When they are pressed for an answer to how they will pay for all of this free tuition, free health care, monthly stipends, etc, they dodge the question. It just isn’t possible to pay for these so called entitlements. It’s not sustainable.

It is and has been sustained in Scandinavia though... that's kinda of what I'm asking... why is that kind of model not applicable to the US? I'm speaking from a position of ignorance here - I honestly don't pretend to know the answer or be any expert in the economic or political situation in the US, so I'm just asking for opinions on why it couldn't happen. Raise corporate taxes, reduce military spending etc... What makes that a fundamentally unthinkable option in the conditions of the US?

Try reading at least the New Scientist article and allow yourself to think of ways that the public could be convinced they're living in a 'fairer' society. Not one of enforced equality or free handouts, but one which it's citizens think is 'fair'.
