Ward is a SMW moving up to LHW who does not have a right hand. He has no power shots and his best skills are the roman greco clinch and the backwards marathon. He is someone that benefited from biased American judging system. His entire success is predicated on focusing on illegal tactics that other boxers are unprepared for; such as running into the clinch, hitting while holding and headbutts. all illegal. He's got a decent jab tho. that's it.


Kovalev is very very limited. 4 round fighter. can only fight long range.


The 2 SMW's that fought lastnight were more skilled. They had a variety of punches. Great defense on both sides and they both had stamina to go 12 hard rounds.

skill for skill I believe Degale and Jack would beat Kovalev. Degale has the chin to drag it out of the first 4 then proceed to outbox him down the stretch. if Jack can survive the first 4, he can def beat Kov with his body attack game down the stretch

Ward is very interesting because he's not operating within the boxing realm. you know it. i know it. boxers know it. that's why no young boxer ever says they want to box like Ward. he is simply not even boxing half the time. he's doing a different sport.

It depends on where the fight takes place and how the judges want to score the fight.

Ward would've lost the Kovalev fight anywhere outside the US. he would've lost vast majority of his fights due to numerous warnings of illegal tactics then disqualification.

Both have well rounded boxing skills. Both can crack with either hand. Fighting long and short range. Offensive variety. Both have durable chins. Both are tough and enough stamina to go the full 12.
