Stiverne vs Breazeale was set to be a final eliminator. When Ortiz fails his test and Stiverne steps in, Breazeale has rights. Which is why he was allowed to fight the highest available contender to keep his eliminator.

Molina was the one willing to step up on short notice. But if he wins, it causes a major problem as Wilder vs Breazeale is marketable, Wilder vs Molina II is not.

Of course he won't get it next. Wilder is fulfilling his mandatory this weekend. So the absolute soonest he'd be forced to make another mandatory would be late 2018 and more likely he wouldn't really have to make the mandatory until 2019.

If Molina somehow wins, Haymon would likely match him against King Kong late next year with the #1 ranking at stake.
