I assume it would be similar to how most major sports organizations handle this. They'd be held to the standards of their biological sex unless they have undergone hormone treatments over an extended period of time (often 2 years if my memory serves correctly).

This begs the question of why the army needs two different physical standards anyway. Either you can physically meet the needs of the position or you can't, or so I would think. Shrug.

I frankly don't understand this reaction.

Offering jobs to qualified folk who happen to be transgender doesn't seem PC to me. Or maybe the goalposts for what is considered PC has been shifting.

People can talk all hey want about qualified but here's what happens. A tranny applies and doesn't meet the needs and is rejected. Then he/she/it cries discrimination. They get some money out of it. Well, here comes another. And another. And another. It's like dominoes man. I see what you're saying. Hire the most qualified for the job regardless of race, sex, sexual orientation, etc. Makes perfect sense. In a perfect world. This isn't. And whatever TV and the media want people to believe, being a tranny is odd behavior to say the least. In the military, we don't need such distractions. You can argue all the lib logic you want which works fine philosophically, but in reality, it's often ineffective. But hey. We'll see what happens.

But lots of trannies have already applied and been rejected w/o outcry from the community. I have zero ****s to give for transgender people who cannot meet the needs for the job and do not consider rejecting those people to be discrimination. I am not asking for the bar to be lowered for them.

I would only call it discrimination if they are qualified to meet the needs for the job and are only being denied an offer / removed from their existing job on the basis of their gender identity. And there are a couple thousand transgender folk in the military at the moment, presumably offered jobs on the basis of meriting those jobs.

          • The military spends five times as much on Viagra as it would on transgender troops' medical care
