How come RJJ wasn't a PPV star?

--- Roy didn't need PPV to make a big splash.

Few fighters can match the respect he held in boxing. Had he retired after the Tarver win, he'd be seen as the alltime everything goat.

    PPV wasn't needed.

In most cases, big PPV stars need another PPV star or legend to beat in order to become one themselves. Mike Tyson was a rare exception. Jones didn't have a big PPV name to go up against the way Floyd and Manny did with DLH. He was also spent a lot of his career in two divisions that are not really glamour divisions (168/175) and the talent pools in those weight classes are shallow. Though 168 was better across the pond for several years.

Lack of big name opponents, stayed way too long in a dead division 175

Jones was one of those guys that even casuals knew very well. In school I remember even being in class and randoms who didn't know much about boxing talking about him.

I agree with an earlier post, it's hard to be a PPV star with no one else really there to challenge you.
