He's only 37? I thought for sure Mir was in his 40s. Lol.

Nah, he started young, was only 22 when he had his first MMA fight and about the same age when he debuted in the UFC.

He will be 39 or 40 when this suspension ends though, plus he's lost 6 of his last 8 fights, which is why I think he should retire. I don't know why so many of these guys hang on too long and keep getting knocked out, would be almost as bad as Chuck Liddell if he sticks around much longer.

I don't disagree with you, but from the fighters POV what are the supposed to do exactly after spending the last 10, 15 or 20 years hitting & getting hit in the head?

Its not so bad if you are one of those few guys who can get a announcing gig or something in the industry or are even just a go-geter, smart cat who can win in multiple fields (& Mir could very well be that type of guy & is already doing some commentating for some Russian MMA league & has done stuff for the UFC pre-this issue + has one of the more successful podcasts that will probably be making money at some future date), but the overwhelming majority of fighters are always gonna error on the side of sticking around too long cuz there isn't anything reasonable for them to transition into.

He also gets good money from visiting that Chechen terrorist/warlord at times.

Well, then they gotta prepare for that. Find something they like and make a living out of it, go to school to learn some office skills or a trade, but they need to do something to prepare for retirement, maybe get a job with a decent pension. A lot of these guys open a gym and train people or start their own camp, like Matt Hughes, Matt Serra, Randy Couture. I know in boxing, Marciano and Larry Holmes both started and got involved in many business ventures after retirement and even before. Gotta always plan ahead. And anything is better than getting your face bashed in for a few extra bucks.

he might as well just retired. he's already at the tail end of his career, now he has to sit out for 2 years? no point in coming back. he's not a force in the hw division anymore and sitting out for 2 years will only get worst for him.
