      • Chelsea obviously ain't winning the league next year. It is nothing to do with being a weaker team than last season.

No one will retain that league again for the foreseeable. Due to the amount the Manc clubs will spend to remain competitive. And isn't only Man U and Chelsea who have ever done it in the prem?

Chelsea will win something though. Hopefully the proper cup with the big ears.

The league can only ever be a consolation prize.

Whoever goes out of the CL first will win it. Standard.

Spurs or City. Man U were my previous favourites it the stronger they get the more games they'll play in Europe.

        • Who would you choose between Drinkwater and Matic sparked? Matic has certainly declined since his first season back at Chelsea but he is still a better player than Danny Drinkwater.

That £34 million Liverpool paid for Mane looking very cheap compared to at the time.

I think I must have seen Drinkwater play at least 20 times total. Never noticed him. I don't feel like I can say he's crap. Tbh, Cesc almost literally can't run so if he's more mobile than him then defensively he's an upgrade on him at least. Cesc should not be anywhere near our goal imo.

I think Chelsea have made an error letting Chalobah go or rather Chalobah just left us of his own accord and Chelsea may as well have hiked his wages.

Matic wasn't good enough for Chelsea in a two either as he had the turning circle of an articulated lorry.

Chalobah himself is very languid and probably not ever gonna be a good enough to start for Chelsea but I feel he must have more upside than Drinkwater.

With Matic I don't know what happened to him after his first 18 months. He was actually brilliant for a while.

I think I'd probably go for N'Zonzi at Sevilla to replace Matic. He's homegrown under that stupid rule and Kante/Bakayoko is the two anyway but N'Zonzi would allow us to match up to Spurs properly. They did us last season head to head performance wise with physicality.

I'd like some English players but realistically only the Ox and Antonio could be remotely useful for Chelsea.

Barkley is not as good as RLC imo. RLC just got too comfortable at Chelsea. Needed to leave last season for sure.

              • Hopefully Lewis Baker hasn't gone on loan and gets the true run out.

Conte got his class players, now let the young guys fill the squad roles.

                • The problem with Baker is he is another one who isn't athletic enough.

Great technique though completely two-footed player. For whatever reason the Chelsea youth players are very good but they're physically under par in terms of stamina and work-rate. Pretty much all of them I suppose they need the games to improve that aspect.

You significantly downplay the importance of a ball winner.

The way you speak of Kante makes me believe that you would be the type of person that looks at Makalele and scoffs.

Zidane would have a celebration if he got Kante in at Madrid. Because it makes the work of Modric and Kroos so much easier when they don't have to track back. Just like Makalele did for Zidane.
France don't and it's a similar story when he's played for them. There's a reason he wasn't an automatic name on the teamsheet at the Euros.

I'm not a big fan of ball winners no. Think it's too specialised a job to actually have a role for players who can pretty much only do that job and are limited in other aspects. How many of the dominant teams in the past 10-15 years have had a pure ball winner consistently in the team? Not many, because they don't contribute enough to a possession based football team.

If Zidane wanted Kante he would've been signed up.

The era France dominated ('98-2000) Makelele couldn't even get in the squad.
