Ireland's Olympic hopes rest on a female amateur boxer haha!

Back in the day they used to have Sonia O'Sullivan.

I'm a bit confused why Ireland aren't better in boats. They're an island for god sake. They should have better sailing teams, and rowing teams. Especially sailing; the wind would blow your face off of the west coast of Ireland.

Yeah Sonia, she was a world-class runner. I spent a lot of time in Ireland growing up but I can't remember any world class athletes other than her - must not have been any! haha

That said they have always had brilliant jockeys. They could be smashing the equestrian and dancing horse event (dressage). I doubt an Irishman would ever swallow his pride to take part in such an elitist basically British 'sport' though.

The funding in Irish sport must be pretty low though.

In fairness Ireland doesn't have a huge amount of money or interest when it comes to developing amateur athletes.

Hey if they made hurling or GAA an Olympic sport then Ireland would have a much better chance! It sounds silly to suggest they put on a sport that literally noone else in the world plays, but the yanks have been doing that for years!
