  • NSB PICK 'EM 2019 #32, #33 and #34. 1st June 2019

    Saturday 1st June 2019

Madison Square Garden, NY, USA (UTC-4)

    Katie Taylor vs Delfine Persoon

    and

Callum Smith vs Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam

    and

    Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz

    BETTING ODDS:

    Taylor: -1200 Persoon: +700 (x3 on Persoon)
    Smith: -3300 N'Dam: +1100 (x4 on N'Dam)
    Joshua: -2500 Ruiz +1100 (x4 on Ruiz)

    Ways fighters can win:
    Decision: WIDE or CLOSE
KO: EARLY (1-4), MID (5-8) or LATE (9-12)

Examples of the ways you can state your decision:

PICK EM CREW, Persoon, KO, Early x3
PICK EM CREW, Ruiz, DEC, CLOSE
If no multiplier is specified in your pick (ie x2, x3) then it will be assumed that no multiplier is being used (x1)
If you wish to pick a Draw result, simply state your Username, both fighter names and DRAW, ie:

PICK EM CREW, Joshua, Ruiz, DRAW
IMPORTANT NOTE: NONE OF THE WBSS FIGHTS CAN BE SCORED A DRAW - ONE FIGHTER WILL ALWAYS BE DECLARED A WINNER. ANY UNCORRECTED DRAW PICKS ON THE WBSS WILL BE WASTED.

    NOTES:
-Picking the correct winner earns 20 pts
-Picking the correct method earns 10 pts
-Picking the correct detail is worth 10 pts
-Draws are worth 120 pts. A perfect pick without a multiplier is 40pts.

-CLOSE is <12 pts difference, or anything closer than 116-112 on all three scorecards. WIDE is >=12 pts difference, or anything equivalent to 116-112 on all three cards or wider.

-If you'd like to change your pick before the fight starts, post in this thread to do so. Ideally tag me so that I don't miss it.

-2X doubles your points and 3X triples your points. Everyone starts with 5 doubles and 3 triples to use throughout the year. If you forget how many you have left, check the leaderboard in the master thread.

Second season for the Pick Em you mean? Like a July 1st Reboot?

Mmmm. Certainly there's gonna to be a multiplier drop and probably an announcement of a half year winner. Whether we go for a full reboot is up for discussion - something like resetting to zero but using the combined scores for the two halves of the year to come up with an overall 2019 champion was what I had in mind when I was considering it at the start of the year, but as ever it's going to be a matter of going with what most players want. Leave it with me and I'll discuss it with the other CREW but I think it's likely to go to a player poll.

Per the bookies as big a trio of mismatches as I think we've ever done on the PICK EM... I gave serious thought to dropping one of 'em to include Monroe vs Centeno but the magnitude of the fights (with a grand total of 8 titles on the line) kinda dictated the choice.

Under normal circumstances all three opponents would be considered solid enough match ups for anyone outside the elite (and Persoon is in women's boxing absolutely a top flight fighter in her own right), but here they are wide underdogs for a reason. I'm not expecting many (if any) of you to roll the dice on the substantial underdog multipliers, but there is good reason to be less than certain about the method of victory: Joshua's lone Dec victory came against Parker whose razor tight win over Ruiz could well have gone the other way on neutral ground. And N'Dam? Well I make no bones about being a longtime fan of the French-Camaroonian veteran but while I'm not expecting him to win here I think his movement could definitely make life tricky for Mundo and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see this going the distance (though probably with N'Dam having to bounce back to his feet at least once).

Persoon - Taylor is an absolute peach on paper, perhaps the best fight to be made in the women's sport, but it's both a recognition of the quality of opposition (3 of Persoons last 6 have more Ls than Ws on their ledger) and just how damn good Taylor looks in the ring that has most seeing only one winner here. The vast majority of women's fights, of course, go to the judges, but it's worth noting that Persoon's sole loss came by way of KO... food for thought?

Thanks for that . My thoughts exactly .
We don't get a Pick 'em for a meaningful Championship fight in Ito / Herring . Yet we get one for a Women's Championship fight ? I know it's a unification . But I honestly don't care .

Ugh. I'm in for Joshua fighting a crossing guard, but I'm more excited for Kelly vs Robinson & Algieri vs Coyle than these other two fights.

Random question is the close/wide numbers the same on 10 round fights as 12 round fights. Curious cuz I believe the girl fight is only 10 rounds.

                Eff Pandas, Smith, KO, Mid
                Eff Pandas, Taylor, Dec, Wide
Eff Pandas, Joshua, KO, Mid x3

Legit question has ANYONE seen that girl Taylor's fighting fight before?

I've never heard of her til I started hearing her as a Taylor opponent let alone see her fight that I can recall. I've seen a million fights so maybe caught her at some point, but she for sure didn't leave a lasting impression on me.
