By your 'common sense' everyone there would be a junkie, yeah. But that's not what happens.
26% of Dutch people report having used pot in their lifetime, with 5% admitting cocaine use. In comparison, those numbers are 44% and 14% respectively for Americans.
Do you want less drug use, and less harm caused by that drug use? Do you want law enforcement resources freed up for more important things? Do you want tax dollars going to the best possible use?
Common sense says you go with what is proven to be the best for everyone. What you are saying is 'common sense' is doing what is proven not to work. Doesn't sound like any kind of sense to me.
