  • POLL: Is ''Hit'em up'' an overrated diss track??

I had this conversation today with a friend of mine.. He said it was an overrated track that got to be known as the best diss ever because everybody is ridin' the dick of tupac..

Personly I totally disagree.. It's a spot on diss track IMO.. Evil diss that made Biggie look at Evans like WTF? Did you **** Pac?

What do you think? Best diss track ever? if not, please post the name of the diss tracks you think is better.

    Poll to come.

its not the best diss ever. but its a legendary diss, no one can deny that.

Gold Mac once told me he thought hit em up was overrated because basically all Pac did was swear. He said it wasn't lyrical enough. I think hes right from a technical perspective, so from a technical stand point, its not a great diss. But from impact stand point, its a legendary diss.......everyone remembers hit em up.

so I guess the final verdict from me is that it is overrated.

it had a great impact, theres no doubt that its a classic diss. like lef said, it was over a decade ago, and we are still talking about it.......

but from lyrical perspective, its not on level of a Joe Budden diss for example...

          Mother****er, I hit 'em up

I love this verse. I don't know if it's super lyrical and what not.

But sometimes in life, it's better to just give raw emotion. It gets the point across.

Lyrics were weak, and Outlaws kind of ruined it for me. To say how intellectual and skilled Pac was, you have to admit that he could have done better, and probably would have produced a better track if Biggie retaliated.

This was just supposed to rile Big, but Big didn't respond making it seem better then it was.

            I still like it though.

            Diss tracks i prefer are:

The Bridge Is Over - Boogie Down Productions
            Ether - Nas
            No Vaseline - Ice Cube

The following are, in my opinion, not as good as Hit 'em up, but deserve a mention:

Jack the Ripper - LL Cool J
            2nd Round K.O. - Canibus
            Takeover - Jay-Z
            10% Dis - MC Lyte
(**** Wit') Dre Day - Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg
            Roxanne's Revenge - Roxanne Shante

You don't have to be overly "lyrical" to get your message across.

It was straight to the point, no holds barred, probably the most genuinely hate filled record I've ever heard.

                A definite classic diss.

black.ink's list of disses is good too. Eminem's "Girls" is maybe the most blatant omission to that link. Even though it was a late effort and not as creative as what was on The Chronic album, Eazy-E's "Real Mothaphuckinn' G's" also scored points... and the 12-year old in me still likes ICP's "Slim Anus" for what it is...

I don't think it's overrated. I don't know, I was young when this came out. But everyone was hyped up about this track. You had to be there at that moment to understand how it was perceived. Listening to it now and looking back gives you a very different perspective on it. It's still great IMO.

Power 106 was playin it like crazy when it dropped.
