    these days people say there depressed cos ther having a bad day or week, depression is a state of mind you can either handle the stresses of life or you cant. if you cant and get depressed its not yore fault,

          It's not a disease. It is something physically happening in the brain, low levels of serotonin. You are born being susceptible to depression. It depends on your family history of depression.

            if one feels sexuality is harmful, then yes. there are no benefits for being depressed.

              They are similar because they deal with how the brain functions. They are different because depression is a leading cause of suicide. Depression can make it impossible for some people to hold a job for any length of time, put a roof over their heads and have a stable relationship. You could educate yourself on mental health issues if you wanted to. A lot of the problems Gay people face is prejudice and being ostracized. People who suffer from severe depression face similar issues but those were minor compared to the effort it takes just to get through the day.

                Yep. It's a bit like being born with diabetes - the body isn't making enough of a chemical it needs to function optimally.

                Telling someone with depression that they don't need medicine, they just need to toughen up, is like telling someone with diabetes that they don't need insulin, they just need to toughen up.
