You will be fine. There's tones of UK people visiting Dubai. There's even a London pub called Double Decker. Tones of soccer games and cricket games on the TV's. Fun place even though i quit drinking.

Bring sun screen for your self. Yes compared to the UK it will definitely be different for me.

Dubai mall and the airport are tourists shopping locations. You are basically paying retail. The only place to get it for the low is the gold market basically what you would call in the USA a fle market. And the gold market is not fake.
