Looked her in her eyes AND LET HER ASK THE QUESTION then said no. That's the part you seem to be ignoring. If he didn't want questions asked then why did he stop, look at her, allow her to ask the question? He was looking all around the room before he stopped at here and waited for her to ask the question.
