That was a great post, green k sent. I agree with this and it's also how I feel about the UK Government. The extent of the debt that can be built up with such ease does make you wonder. Obama and Brown are talking about regulating banks financials more whilst spending billions of present and future tax payers hard earned cash. Hmmmmm.

It's our constitutional right to have guns. Banning the right to own guns is a step to taking away our freedom.
It amazes me having a lethal weapon can be so deep rooted into law as a constitutional right like that.

AFAIK I don't have a constitutional right to own and drive a car which is a lethal weapon, let alone a gun.

I tend to agree with most of Welter's post's in this thread, though not quite as strongly. The US does have one of, if not the highest murder rate of any developed nation largely due to it also having extremely high numbers of human killing weapons everywhere. It's to the extent that there is a validity in innocent people carrying guns because they can easily become prey if they don't, in some area's at least.

If that is the justification for someone carrying a gun and a reality, then that's very sad and clearly underlines cultural issues.

Hardly anyone in my locality has the capability to kill each other with such ease, and I'm pretty sure if they could a lot unfortunately, would in inevitably do so.

    • There was a reason why our founding fathers made a specific point to have the right to own fire arms. Think about it.

Exactly, the US was founded and edified by this thing called the constitution. It is the state's right to allow or deny people the right to bear arms, not the central government.

Everybody talking about owning guns and crime is plain absurd, probably 98% of all gun related fatalities are gang related or drug related. These guys don't give a shiet about what Obama thinks, they will find a way to get more guns even if they are "illegal".

Most "legal" gun owners don't shoot others with their handguns, they take them out target practicing or something less violent. Taking the guns away from responsible gun owners will only compound the number of violent crimes because the real criminals will now know that no one will be able to protect themselves.

This country is gonna go down the tubes fast ladies and gents. I hate politics and this is why. We have a Harvard guy, who is out of context with the average guy and he is responsible for fixing things.....by giving all the middle class's money away to the other classes and by making america closer to a socialist society. The Government wants total control of our lives and our money.

HUh? first off No reason for you to be upset.. i simply made a thread about me thinking that i *might* have made a mistake... based on some words obama said himself... I said I.. not we as in us blacks.. or We as a nation. I did not mention the ridiculous spending... no... i said on the gun ban only leading to more gun bans i think.

and no im not a redneck.. no i don't own a gun. and when he says loopholes you can be sure any politician means more than just loopholes..

Sorry to upset you with my own personal feelings that i did not try to press on anyone. We still cool though.

and don't say yanks because im over here too... we are not all the same. I do not think we need assualt rifles.. but thats just me.. and i myself don't speak for all of us over here... so the right to choose is what im actually standing for.

Taking away the right to choose is just being lazy and not wanting to reform and reinforce morals.

I want you to try an experiment:

Consume nothing but Coors light, pizza, fried chicken and hot pockets for 4 months to produce a nice redneck belly. Take a cold shower and exit quickly without drying off. Now that you are freezing and naked with a shrivelled **** that you cannot see with your beer gut in the way, ask yourself do you feel like a man?

Now repeat the same cold water shower, only this time upon exiting the shower, grab a loaded M4 in your hands and exclaim "They can pry my gun out of my cold dead hands!" and notice how much of a man you feel like!

It's not an issue whether or not we need one, but it's our constitutional right to own one if we choose to.

So what if rape was written into your constitution. Would it be right?

And foreign guns couldn't have a pistol grip, flash hider, collapsible stocks or be in black. Outlawing a gun because of it's color now that's ****ing stupid.

This ban is a useless piece of legislation and it will hurt, probably the best performing market in this **** economy right now. People won't stop shooting people more efforts should be directed at the one pulling the trigger than the actual guns, getting rid of certain guns because you don't want them to look scary is not going to work.

And yes you made a mistake voting for Obama and you won't be the last one to realize it.
Don't get me wrong, I realize that the ban is fairly frivolous in that it only targeted a very few number of guns on the market, but it was a step in the right direction. America has to do something about its culture of guns, and any reforms on what can be sold or manufactured is a good start.

And as far as others mentioning it being a right... the Constitution was written in an extremely different time. They were writing about what they saw around them; which was a need for citizens to be able to rise up in revolt. They were writing about how it is needed to be able to make sure the government can't control its citizens... but do you honestly think allowing ownership of guns in this modern era matters for protection from government? The world has changed.
