12:04 p.m. - I'm still looking for a stream to the hearing. Overeem is supposed to be last on the agenda today so it could be a while.
12:15 p.m. - Boxer Shane Mosely gets approved for his license.
12:20 p.m. - Boxer Miguel Beltran gets approved for his license.
12:22 p.m. - UFC featherweight Mike Brown gets approved for his upcoming UFC 146 fight against Daniel Pineda.
12:24 p.m - UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt gets approved for his upcoming UFC 146 fight against Stefan Struve.
12:27 p.m. - Bunch of judges/referee selections for upcoming boxing fights.
12:31 p.m. - Overeem is in the building and will be coming up shortly.
12:38 p.m. - MMA fighter Shawn Fitzsimmons is up first before Overeem. He tested positive for anabolic steroid metabolites and is using the TRT defense.
12:48 p.m. - Fitzsimmons is still getting grilled about this. We might be here a while.
12:55 p.m. - Fitzsimmons is suspended nine months, has his $1500 win bonus stripped, is fined 30% of his $2100 show money and his victory switched to a "no contest."
12:55 p.m. - Commissioner puts the hammer down on Therapeutic Use Exemption for Testosterone, saying it will only be given sparingly, questions why so many fighters come up with TRT excuse after being caught.
1:05 p.m. - Boxer Javier Flores is up next getting grilled about a positive steroid test. His excuse is he thought he was injecting himself with B-12 which he got from a friend and not a doctor, commission isn't buying it.
1:13 p.m. - Commission says "this is another example of a fighter not taking responsibility for what they're putting in their body." Win is changed to a no contest, Flores is put on nine month suspension, fined 30 percent of his fight purse and must pass a test before he can fight again.
1:16 p.m. - Promoter is looking for his license next. Once this is done, they will finally get to Overeem.
1:25 p.m. - The promotion is World Series of MMA, headed by Ray Sefo. They're still talking to him, ughh.
1:35 p.m. - They're STILL talking about this promoter thing. GET TO REEM ALREADY!
1:46 p.m. - FINALLY. They're taking a couple minute recess and then Overeem is coming up. This has taken FOREVER.
1:55 p.m. - Overeem is getting started right now. Here we go ladies!
Keith Kizer: It was a positive test for elevated T/E ratio. I twas reported as over 10 and the specific reading form the lab was 14:1. The lab cut-off is 6:1 and regardless of what your level is, if you're taking any type of prohibited substance, you need to tell us in advance. The UFC informed these fighters just before the press conference that I would be coming to collect samples. As soon as the conference was over, Mr. Overeem speeded out of the building and took off. I told him he would be treated as a positive test unless he came back and he came back.
Keith Kizer: He said he had an interview but the UFC told me that he had been informed prior.
2:00 p.m. - Overeem and his council are sworn in.
Reem's council: They had heard reports that someone (the women he had a dispute with) was going to try to make a public spectacle at the press conference that day so he had been directed to go to another lawyer's office. He wasn't trying to avoid the process.
Reem's council: His test was from an anti-inflammatory which was to target an injury. I don't want to go forward with the application process unless we have the scientific explanation on what Alistair received caused the ****e. He received an injection in a doctor's office in Dallas and was given a vial which contained two more doses. He took one more dose and we have the vial with us and are prepared to give it to your staff. It says "Anti-inflammatory" on it with no mention of testosterone. It has B-12, tetrometrozone, and testosterone. That explains the ****e. Overeem had been training last summer for Werdum and during training, he injured himself on several occasions including a severe injury to his foot. While preparing for this fight, he fractured a rib. He went to specialists in Holland to determine. In December of 2011 before his fight in Las Vegas, he was hit in the ribs on the left side and in the fight with Brock, he aggravated the injury. He had taken nothing that would have violated any rule prior to the fight in December even though the injuries occurred prior. After the fight, he was still in pain from the injury. He went to Dr. Molina and the doctor had a history of treating athletes and boxers in Texas. The doctor concluded he could alleviate the pain Alistair was experiencing. He got the injection and here we are today.
Commission asks what Overeem needs yet that he doesn't have today.
Reem's council: There are doctors and experts who can testify.
It seems that Overeem's primary defense is it was an intentional ingestion of an anti-inflammatory without knowledge of it having testosterone.
12:18 p.m. - Overeem has the doctor present who prescribed him the anti-inflammatory.
2:22 p.m. - Overeem promises to return if granted a continuance.
Two commissioners say they see no reason to grant a continuance since the doctor is here already. They believe they should proceed today. Everyone else voices their opinion and they are not granting a continuance!
2:30 p.m. - Overeem is discussing all the injuries he had prior to and during the fight with Lesnar, setting precedent for why he took what he took.
Commissioners ask about why he said no when asked if he'd taken medication.
2:40 p.m. - Overeem says doctor never told him there was testosterone in his medication.
Overeem says he didn't know about needing to take the tests until he left the press conference and then was informed he needed to come back immediately or he would be guilty. He says he left because he heard his former team Golden Glory was going to make a scene at the press conference.
Overeem admits he knew he knew had taken shots before the press conference.
Overeem says that Tre Telligman is the one that referred him to the doctor. He says he didn't look into Molina at all before visiting him. He says the doctors back in Holland know not to inject athletes with WADA banned substances. He admits that he doesn't believe Dr. Molina had any evil intent. He injected himself in the shoulder.
Overeem says he injected himself on March 23rd.
Commission makes note of the vial Overeem produced, especially the odd simplistic white label, asking if Overeem put it on there himself.
3:00 p.m. - Now time for the doctor who prescribed the treatment to Overeem to be questioned.
Molina has been used by the Texas State Athletic Commission. He first met Overeem back in June of 2011.
Doc says Overeem had taken Motrin before to deal with the pain of his nagging injuries. He admits he's worked with prior professional athletes. Molina says the injection wouldn't give Overeem an "anabolic advantage." He says he added testosterone to the mixture to help speed up his healing, not to give him a competitive advantage.
Molina says in Texas, they don't test for it.
Commissioners are reviewing the Overeem paperwork now.
After considerable questioning, Molina admits he "might" have told Overeem what was in the mixture.
Doctor is really getting reamed here by the commission.
Overeem's legal team pleading their case one last time. They are trying to really tug the heartstrings, pleading that he didn't knowingly ingest to enhance performance.
Commission says it's hard to overlook the 14:1 ratio, tough to grant the conditional license. They respect Overeem's eloquence and professionalism but he shouldn't allow someone to inject him without telling him. It looks like they're considering a nine month suspension.
Overeem's license has been denied. Now they're just deliberating how long until he can reapply and under what stipulations.
It's official. Overeem can't reapply for his license for nine months. That means he could potentially fight on the UFC's end of the year blowout card.
