    Closer to prime...

reason being less wear and tear...

Joe's style and venue allowed him to do his thing and get out of Dodge. Several questionable stoppages in his career, and his style lends itself to preservation by befuddling his opponents with his speed and rhythm..

Hopkins style also lends itself to preservation, but he had been in the ring with far greater threats and talent than Joe up to that point.

As for Roy he had already taken too much damage in his previous bouts.. especially from Tarver and Johnson.

Of all 3 fighters, Calzaghe's was by far the most risk-prone style.

it boils down to what the terms were. it doesn't look good on JC's end. who was he and why did he even HAVE terms? Jones was the man to fight and in america. why all of a sudden did calzaghe decide to finally leave the UK to fight jones and hopkins years later when it got convenient... we may never know.

It was that they "all of a sudden" took notice of Calzaghe, not the other way round.

I would disagree.. Roy, who depended on only athleticism for defense, and used his explosive movements outquicking his opponent was the far most risky of the three. Someone lunging in can always be countered. And once his athleticism faded even the slightest bit, someone with better fundamentals was gonna catch him. And did.

Joe, on the other hand, had a great system going for him. Solid fundamentals, underrated footwork, and fast hands. I take his bout against Lacy as an example.. Lacy barely hit Joe at all. Joe is slick in his own way.

Hands... that don't count. Floyd has hand problems too that don't stop him.. I'm talking more about wear and tear on the body and the chin.
