The Finnegan Brothers, Jeff Harding, Benny Lynch and Gerry Cooney all fell into this trap.. There's many more too... Discuss......

Many of these guys perhaps had the problem earlier but had managers a promoters that kept it under raps or at least to babysit the fighter keeping him out of trouble and away from bars an clubs. As they retired they had excess time and often a void that left them depressed and without someone around anymore to look after them hit bottom.

When Terry Downes retired he invested in a string of betting shops, 6 i believe, and each one of them was either next to, or opposite a pub from where he could keep a drunken eye on things.. Even now, he still drinks two bottles of white wine everyday and openly takes the piss out of John Conteh for going to AA and becoming teetotal..
