the WBO have told talkSPORT.com that, as Povetkin is #1 in their rankings too, the bout also counts as their mandatory defence.

“Anthony Joshua is the WBO ‘Super Champion’ in the heavyweight division and will make his mandatory defence when he faces Alexander Povetkin on September 22,” revealed the WBO rep.

“Joshua has 18 months before he has to make his next mandatory defence.”
Thanks for the clarification, I hope

That's a bunch of bull. They don't even have an opponent yet. They're basically looking for sanctioning fees. Little pricks.

The IBF usually obeys its own rules but with the others it's the wild west, they do what they want.

Valcarcel is a prostitute and would MUCH rather collect the sanction fee for a Joshua-Wilder fight as opposed to a Joshua-Whyte fight.......

This doesn’t disturb a Wilder fight if that fight is signed. Unification and all of that.

It’s all getting a bit confusing

Hopefully they stick to the 18 months before his next mando defence

A lot of these organisations are corrupt, we saw that recently with the whole dliian Whyte/ Breazeale situation.

Usyk will be ranked #1 if he moves up

They'll do whatever Hearn wants them to do.

That hasn't been determined. All we know is that there is a rematch clause. It could be a one way clause for Wilder as the champion vs a challenger (typical). It could be a two way rematch clause that includes a provision for Wilder to take a unification fight before the rematch. It's unknown if this is a real two-fight deal with Fury.
