  • Comments Thread For: Kovalev: Mikhalkin's Mentality Same as Mine; Won't Take Step Back

Igor Mikhalkin hasn't knocked out nearly as many of his opponents as Sergey Kovalev. Nevertheless, Kovalev knows his fight against Mikhalkin will be challenging because his former amateur teammate has the same mentality as him and most Russian boxers. Kovalev (31-2-1, 27 KOs) will defend his WBO light heavyweight title against Mikhalkin (21-1, 9 KOs) on March 3 in the main event of an HBO doubleheader from The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

yup..confirms it's nothing but a tune up disguised as a main event..bivol vs barrera is the real main event not this farce pulled by kathy duva and sergey..although lack of opponents may have been a factor for this joke fight

well they tried to get barrera to fight kovalev but barrera ducked. he instead chose to take less money to fight bivol on the undercard instead. classic cuban school of boxing right there

I would blast Kovalev for this fight, but Barerra turned down the opportunity, so it is what it is!

Kovalev must be suffering from memory loss. Because I saw him take several steps back when Ward beat that ass last June. Hell, in that final round he was in full Deion Sanders backpedaling mode.

Damn Sergey, going from taking on live contenders to fighting the kid from Home Alone. Leave Macaulay Mikhalkin alone

No, he hasn't, and that is such a good point. Not injured, pretty active. And he fought Ward to complete stand still the first bout and was doing good things in the second until his body betrayed him. We KNOW Krusher can fight.

This should be a fun fight, but a complete foot note we all will forget quickly. Pad some of Sergei's statistics. Pure violence in motion designed and hand picked to get Kovalev back in the destroyer image.
