Vitali fought an old and out of shape Lewis and while he was slightly ahead, he got his face ripped apart and stopped. I don't give him anywhere near as much credit for that as others seem to.
Vitali was the same age and he too had short notice so both were out of shape

Again, this is false. Vitali told HBO analysts that he had been training for Lennox for the past year.

That's probably because no rematch was necessary as he was got stopped in the first fight. Rahman actually won his first fight.

What are you talking about? Vitali was in the middle of a training camp for a fight when they got the call and the Lewis fight had been his goal for a long time. He was in perfect shape. He was also young, in boxing years he was much, much, much younger than Lewis, and in his prime.

No he wasn't, Vitali was in shape, and at the peak of his career.

Lewis came into the ring that night over-weight and clearly out of shape, as well as old. He still got the job done and shredded Vitali's face. I don't see why Vitali get's so much credit for that.

The reason I can't really take people serious when they say prime for prime Vitali or Wlad would beat most other good or great HW's is simple......

A prime Vitali fought a way past prime and out of shape Lennox, and was only up 4-2 in the fight, 3-3 depending on who you talk to, and than proceeded to get his face ripped to shreds and the fight was stopped. I mean that was the best fighter he's ever faced, a way faded and out of shape Lennox, and that's how he performed. So how does he handle a prime Ali, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Bowe, Holyfield, Lennox, and others???

And Wlad in his prime was stopped by Corrie Sanders and Lamon Brewster. Yes, I know he avenges the Lamon Brewster loss, but who's to say he wouldn't get stopped by the likes of Liston, Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, and Lewis prime for prime or others???

BS How is he going to be training for Lewis when there was no fight signed stop your excuses. Where you there at the gym training with Vitali ? Lewis probably the one making excuses that he was out of shape. Why didn't he rematch him as he did others ? because he wanted nothing to do with Vitali

they also talked about the fight like vitali won...

I think it comes down to motivation.

Lewis had cleaned out the division; Vitali was working towards a title shot.

Rahman gets all the credit in the world for knocking out Lewis. And Vitali gets all the credit in the world for winning against Lewis on the scorecards although losing the fight because of the doctor stoppage.
You cannot discredit Vitali's effort. He got cut badly and yes, he lost. But if it wasn't for the cuts, he was on his way of winning the fight.
