So the only reason the higher weight classes mandate 10 oz gloves is to protect...hands?

Don't think I've ever heard the athletic commissions argue that.

How about a 5 lb metal bat vs. a 5 lb rubber bat?

If you strike something with a 5lb hammer vs a 10lb hammer with more surface area, the amount of force is higher with the heavier hammer but spread over a wider area. A punch is using a lever (your fist i.e hammer head at the end of your arm i.e the stick holding the hammer head) that's why guys with longer. Also MMA guys have weaker chins/defense vs a boxer who learns how to roll and take a punch.

Boxing gloves because the boxer has more fundamentals and technique to maximize the force being delivered. It was evident by the Mcgregor fight. Mcgregor who by all accounts was one of the best strikers and hardest puncher in MMA. But in a boxing ring he was a featherfisted puncher that Floyd who hadn't knocked anybody out in like a decade had no problem standing there taking shots and walking him down with no fear in any punch Mcgregor threw. All Mcgregor's punches were arm punches with NO leverage and torque on them. When you watch MMA they are all flat footed and lunging arm punches because they are not elite trained boxers with the technique to get your hips and torque to get your full body into the punches.

It's like a baseball hitter. It don't matter the bat if one guy is a professional knowing how to get their full body weight and hips into the swing while the other guy a non baseball player is standing straight like a board and just hacking away with nothing but his arms swinging like they trying to hit a pinata. There is a art to hitting a baseball, hitting a golf ball, and delivering a powerful punch which is why you see guys who are jacked and yet guys who are much smaller can hit a baseball, golf ball, and punch harder because they have better technique and skill.

Also guys get KO'd easier in MMA because their chins are trash compared to a boxer who has been trained and hit on their chin by harder punchers their entire careers so they can take the punches better.

Bare knuckle boxing is safer than boxing with gloves. So using that equivalency MMA gloves have less surface area since they are 4oz. Where as 8oz boxing gloves spread punches so the damage is spread.

Rocky Marciano ATG fighter - Freedom. Thanks for thanking me! - Terry A

925ft-lbs is still the world record. Held by Rocky Marciano.

Look into kinesiology and know that as a fan you've been lead to believe some unscientific bull****.

Power is not something you are born with. Power is derived from pure kinematic chains. He with the purest hits hardest, end of. Rocky Marciano being more pygmachos than boxer is the only man in modern history to never bastardize his powerline for a boxer's technique.

Posture, positision, pressure, patience, baits, and line of sight. It is the one you did not see coming and it does require a pure powerline.

Powerline is a term I picked up from Jack Dempsey. I know it as kinematic chains. You know what a kinematic chain is because you've seen a newton's cradle.

Watch Foreman in my sig. **** powerline, just a lot of weight being a fist.

Look at Frazier, **** powerline, always moving his fist to land rather than his body.

Shavers? You're only think Shavers because Ali told you to. Analyze him. He hits hard but what happens when he connects? Bounce due to a **** powerline.

These guys gave a damn about their defense. Not as much as Ali, but more so than Marciano and that's why Rocky still holds the record.

For point of reference Marciano hit about as hard as a .44....and I'm telling you son it ain't no fun staring straight down a .44.

25 went into retirement within 5 fights of their Marciano fight.

13 directly.

The man fought 5 old guy and only three retired afterward.

Put Vingo in a coma and broke LaStarza's elbows the night Roland debutted what would inspire rope-a-dope.

You do yourself, the legend of The Rockness Monster, and boxing history a disservice by ignorantly denying this man's claim to legacy based solely on what you assume to be medically true.

Look into kinesiology and then tell me Marciano is not the only man with the physics behind his fist to crack like a goddamn hand cannon.

Know your role.

Not that Rocky wasn't a hard hitter but what methodology did they use to measure his punch back in the 50's to get that measurement?

Modern punching is measured with pressure pads placed on bags and hooked up to computer processors.

I don't think they even had those punch test games you'd find in bars back then?
