Evgeny Romanov (13-0, 9 KOs) knocked out Wilder in the amateurs, and he's currently ranked as the WBO #10 Heavyweight. He's also ranked as the #21 Heavyweight on BoxRec, way ahead of Tom Schwartz, and ahead of Bryant Jennings and Joe Joyce who are fighting each other in July.
Romanov and Wilder are both 33, but Romanov has yet to fight anyone of note as a pro. Romanov is also only 6 feet tall. Although, he just defeated an opponent today that outweighed him by almost 50 pounds: https://www.boxingscene.com/egorov-r...russia--140043
But I wonder when he will step up to fight a Heavyweight who is at or near the top 10. Tyson Fury teased Wilder about his KO loss to Romanov at one of their press conferences. Povetkin and Romanov are the top 2 Russian Heavyweights right now, Povetkin is coming off a KO loss to Joshua last year, and his only other loss is a UD to Wlad. Since Povetkin is turning 40 soon, maybe there will be a passing of the torch fight, then we can get Wilder vs Romanov in the pros.
