It's about having the military best prepared to do it's job.

That isn't true. Where did Mattis say this? He asked to delay accepting transgender recruits into the military after reports that the Pentagon chief was considering such a move.

Clearly the Pentagon chief doesn't see this as an issue.

As with gays, there were already trannies serving in the military. the pressure wasn't to let them serve, but to let them serve openly, same as gays.
