Democrats would rather shut down the government than shell out 5 billion which is nothing compared to the size of the entire budget. Hell, the money isn't even the issue. Heck, Nancy Pelosi is on record saying it.

As for the media; outside of Fox, almost every other mainstream outlet is doing as you are doing and blaming it solely on Trump.

Team D rushed right into the House, and tried to pass a bill, but in their haste they didnt follow House rules.

They'll have the full House back next week to debate it.

Of course unless they pass a bill the Senate will pass and Trump will sign (or a bill that passes the Senate with a veto proof margin), they are just playing games and wasting more time.

POTUS might just want to expose how much democrats objects to securing the border. He also wants to show he was willing to negotiate to have it done instead of just ordering the military to build it.
