Both finalists have to go through 6 games against (usually) 6 different teams in the span of a month to get to the final. Being the second best at WC is a great achievement.

Fighting for a belt at boxing and losing is an achievement too, but more often than not one of the fighters is levels below the champion especially in this era of ABC belts. That's not the case when it comes to football and World Cup.

However I've recently struck a small interest. What teams should I be watching other than the obvious ones like Spain, Brazil, Germany etc.?

All the south american teams are usually good to watch, play with alot of flair, pace and skill.

African teams are attack heavy but usually have very poor defence, european teams like germany and spain play very technically astute, tactical football.

Japan and korea are usually fun to watch too.

so yeah basically everyone apart from Iran, Saudi arabia, panama & Tunisia
