How is it that Joshua is so popular in England but Wilder isn't in America?

It's his out the ring media persona. He's seen as a good role model out the ring.
For example it was in the papers here today that he's just moved back in to his mums 2 bedroom ex council flat (kind of like a uk "project" ie govt funded estate) despite his 15mil pay packet
Funny thing is I have s colleague who went to school with him as a teenager and apparently he was an absolute bad egg. Not gonna slander the guy on here but either what in hearing isn't true or Eddie Hearn has done some mental pr job on the dude
Wilder on the other hand is clearly not a role model.

joshya's a lot better, for starters.
he also won a gold medal at home. can't stress enough how much of a headstart that gives you.
he also doesn't shout bomb squad and make people mute the TV.

Brits are totally different fans.
Winning the Olympic Heavyweight Gold Medal at home certainly provided the huge platform for him to build off.
I'm sure had Wilder been from the UK, he would be just as popular or close enough.

Boxing has been cashed out since the 80's with PPV and premium pay cable so it became a niche but a hardcore audience in the US. That's the core reason why things are the way they are in the US. That and the UFC's corporate and unified approach providing strong competition making it more difficult to grow the sport back up.
I also believe there's racial aspects. There really hasn't been a high level White American boxer in a long time, and HBO pushing eastern Europeans hasn't done the job. On top of that the country has trended towards White nationalism over the years I have been following boxing. There's no guarantee Wilder could ever win over these folks even if he was perfect. Certainly not without media backing which is one big fight away. There's only one big fight to make.
