This is false, a decent HW by todays standards would get destroyed by Deontay ; take for instance recent top ten HW as in : Dyllan Whyte, Andy Ruiz, Christian Hammer, thats considered good and none of you will have the guts to put your money up if the bookies open a betting line for this, in addition Wilder would be the heavy favorite vs. these top ten contenders...so enough with this nonsense.
Joshua is the real deal and already has a better resume
Wilder is probably one of the most athletic heavyweight now and if he fought nothing but bums then so has klitscko and Joshua's only name in his resume is klitscko. The heavyweight division is sad and has been for about 20yrs.
Our population is smaller. He's also promoted heavily by Sky/Sky Sports which is basically the dominant network for sports in the country and a huge amount of people just follow whatever they say. Not to mention he is also backed by the mainstream media, not even just sports and us being a small country means it's very easy to reach the entire country. Also, he won (was gifted) and Olympic gold medal and that helps, especially as he did it in the London olympics too, he was already off to a good start.
Also, boxing is just on a high at the moment in the UK and it's not in USA. As i've always said, if this was the 90's or before, imagine USA had a WBC world HW champ with almost 40 wins, no losses and stopped all but 1 opponent. He would have been a HUGE name despite his level of opposition. It's just different times.
The UK supports fighters differently to USA too. Look at how many British fans travel abroad to watch British fighters. It's just a more passionate kind of fan. You won't be seeing many American's travelling over to support Errol Spence this month.
I do think it just mostly comes down to the media backing, especially Sky. Any well known fighter in this country is backed by Sky/Hearn, apart from Fury and Haye. The rest of the promoters and networks like BoxNation simply can't compete right now, even if they have talented fighters. BT/BoxNation might change things but either way, it should not be underestimate just how much influence and power Sky have.
No one cares about boxing in America that's why. It's not on Wilder. The Brits love their boxing. The majority of boxing fans left in America are of Latin descent and they mostly support Latin fighters. Theres also blacks that are fans, but that's a much smaller group.
The UFC has completely taken over the 16-30 white male demographic, which like it or not, is a large group of possible boxing fans.
