Ramirez has been off for a year and is fighting on a PPV that won't sell and he's not even headlining the PPV. He'd have to raise his profile a whole lot more to get a GGG fight in the second half of the year and that's not happening.
BJS has the last belt GGG wants. He's gonna command more than Jacobs. If the fight is staged in GGG's home country I'll agree it's a big fight on regular HBO. But if that fight is in America it's a PPV.
Beterbiev-Barrera is an IBF eliminator. The winner gets the winner of Kovalev-Ward. If Ward and Barrera wins that's a shit fight. Ward washed him in his first fight. Barrera has nothing to bother Ward. Ward vs. Kovalev will have another rematch clause because Ward has 3 belts. If Kovalev wins he's facing Ward again. If Kovalev wins and he has to face Barrera that's not a big fight. Beating Ward's leftovers isn't a big fight. If Barrera vs. Kovalev was a big fight, Main Events would've made that fight instead of allowing Barrera to fight Ward and lose his mandatory spot for Kovalev.
Brook vs. Spence is only happening because it's a mandatory. Not because it's in the UK. Haymon and Co. were prepared to go to a purse bid. Hearn kept talking about the 75/25 split he'd have but he chose to pay up instead of risking the purse bid.
Bradley vs. any PBC welterweight on HBO would be PPV. Bradley wanted to much money for the Porter fight. He has a $2 mil guarantee. Thurman, Garcia, Spence or Porter would have to be on PPV. They aren't taking $500k to fight on regular HBO.
What does a PBC welter have to gain by fighting Vargas? He's not a name and he doesn't have a belt. Porter went after Bradley and when Bradley priced himself out they went after Berto. If Vargas is fighting a PBC fighter on HBO it's because Vargas needs a fight, not because a PBC fighter needs a fight. And if HBO comes to PBC for a fighter on HBO they're gonna have to pay above market rate.
Nobody is checking for Gvozdyk. He's not a name. He doesn't have a belt. If he beats Yuniesky he's doing something Pascal and Sharbanskky have already done. It didn't make either one of them a bigger name so why would it make Gvozdyk a bigger name and it wouldn't prove Gvozdyk is top level.
Canelo owes HBO a non-PPV fight. That's going to take up a big chunk of their budget you aren't accounting for. We saw last year when he got injured, HBO was able to afford several more fights.
The biggest realistic fight on HBO in the second half of the year is Cuadras v. Gonzalez.
