First off, I love Bob. Been listening to him since the mid 70's & growing up in a racially mixed part of London he was EVERYWHERE. I vividly remember the day after he died and kids crying at school. I was 12.
I've been living in the US for 16 years and so many people tell me they are Irish, Italian or whatever even though they don't speak the language & have never been to said country. But their great-great-great grandfather was from there so thats what that are. Bob's dad was English, he spoke English, he lived in London for several years & when Jamaicans didn't want him in Jamaica he moved to London - where most of his kids were born. So, on this note, I am proclaiming Bob Marley as a fellow Londoner. And the Greatest British Musician of all Time Image View Removed. Please Click Here. I shouldn't have generalized like that, I'm sure there are plenty of Jamaicans who like white people. It was just when I went there on spring break one year, and decided to travel into Kingston to get a better idea what Jamaica was like outside of the "tourist" destinations, some of the Jamaicans were just rude - mean mugging, trying to rip me off, and just in general giving me that vibe that I wasn't wanted. Just a few examples. I asked around for weed, and the first time i got ripped off so bad. I didn't want to say anything, or try to start something over it, obviously. Some people didn't even talk to me, just gave me the "**** off white boy" look. Another example, I was in a restaurant, and one of the waitresses was just rude as hell, and was obviously serving others before us. But there was plenty of very pleasant, chilled out Jamaicans. I eventually did find some pretty good smoke for good price, and the taxi cab drivers were always cool as ****. Lol some are exactly like the stereotype: Dreads, thick accent, smiling all the time, and just have a look on their face like their the happiest person in the world. But there is still a small, but influential white Jamaican community who have been there for generations. So I can't speak from their stance, as I'm sure they have experienced their home country from an entirely different perspective. Maybe they have no problems, and it's just the white visitor/travelers (lol don't like to call myself a tourist, because I like to believe I have a different mentality when visiting other countries). My dad worked there in the 70's, and he told me crime was really bad there, and to be careful in some areas. He also said some of the locals are "not pleasant" towards white people. The "tourist," and resort areas are fine, though. ALl the local Jamaicans who work there are very cool, and helpful. |

dumbest thread ever.
most jamaicans have english blood in them. bob only lived in england for a while to gain noteriety there, he also lived in america for some time. bob marley is jamaican, its in his blood, its where he grew up and lived most of his adult life and above all its what he calls home. jamaica shaped him as much as a place shaped any man. one of the reasons he went into music was to rep jamaica. to call bob marley anything but jamaican is just retarded. |
