The only canon needed for Star Wars is a cannon to put the lot in and blast it away. Overrated crap IMO. Science fiction can be fun... science fantasy, not so much.

Canon isn't just films, it can be novels and others works. Star Wars has a huge amount of canon, enough to be used to make several more films. I'd rather they cover something about Exar Kun or The Old Republic than make up new ideas.

Whoever writes these next films has a plethora of ideas and storylines already available to them.

Canon is the "official timeline". It's like Marvel Noir has an issue where Spiderman has a gun and lives in the 20s or something. That story is not canon.

You can have stories and them not be canon.
