Default “Loma was too small”

I’m not buying that

If he had just moved up, then there would be a case for that argument.

It was his 5th fight at the weight. He has wins in the division over Linares, Pedraza and Campbell, all good solid wins by anyone’s standards. Even Crolla was proven at a decent enough level.

You can’t be picking up titles and having 4 previous fights in the division and then suddenly be too small.

Honestly am not even selling that as an excuse, because I believe with the right cherrypicked fights he can fight at 140. He does have the skills to, he has a small frame and small reach but if you pick his opponents properly then it wouldn’t be such an issue.

Yeah that definitely is not an excuse, he was a champion at taht weight, blown fighters out at that weight, and been at the weight for awhile already. Plus side by side Lopez and Lomachenko are exactly the same size.

Even if he was too small, I guess it highlights that he certainly isn’t as great a fighter as the likes of Floyd and Manny who’s ability allowed them to go up plenty of divisions.

Not that I ever thought he was anywhere near their level, but some did.

This isn’t bashing him, he’s a very very good fighter but not one of the greats. He lost to a better fighter, not because of size.

I think he is a great fighter, not as great as Mayweather or Pacman. And it’s not bashing if anyone doesn’t think he is a great fighter. We all have our opinion, great fighter also loses fights, everyday cannot be your day. He lost to a hungry young lion who brought it to him, I would give Lopez more credit than take away from him. In trying to take shots at Lomachenko some people are trying or taking away from Lopez victory.

I swear people are killing me with the whole too small thing. Obviously he was big enough to win multiple titles in the division and spent a third of his pro career at 135. That excuse dont cut it for me. The better man won last night. They could run it back a dozen times and the outcome may be different every time.

Literally during the weigh-in you had people saying Lopez was the smallest LW that Lomachenko has fought and there was no size different...At a damn weigh-in lol.

Lopez is the naturally bigger fighter but it wasn't just size that won him this fight.

Yeah, Lopez probably fills out bigger but it’s not some huge size mismatch. Lopez is just on the bigger end of the lightweight division.

People talk like Lopez is some huge light welterweight. I’d consider Josh Taylor a good size light welterweight. could he make 135? No chance in hell.

Anyone without an ounce of bias can tell 135 is lomas ceiling in terms of being competitive with the elite, at that weight, all the while being undersized. Theres comes a point, in all but a few boxers careers, where the opponent is just too big,too strong even with the disparity in skills and I think we saw that last night. Those first 6 rds wasnt just loma trying tire out teo, he most likely felt teos strength/power and became cautious of being countered by the bigger/stronger fighter. It happens, just as recently as Garcia vs Spence and probably why we will never see Canelo vs Beterbiev eventhough canelo is the superior boxer...but that's just my 2 cents.
