remember Argentina is the place where scenes like this are fairly common in the boxing ring:

This ESPN article also covers the status of boxing in Argentina:

It was, nonetheless, the most recent reminder of the perils of underestimating a fighter from the land where bulls still roam the Pampas and boxing remains a vital part of a rich sporting culture.Last edited by croz; 01-26-2013, 05:47 PM.

Female boxing is really popular in Argentina (as popular as male boxers except for Martinez, Narvaez, maybe Maidana and now Matthysse) but the case of Jessica Marcos in the province of Mendoza is quite a phenomenon. Last time was about 30000 people and last night was even more people, they were talking about 35000. I don't know the price of the tickets or if they pay tickets at all but it's crazy all those people watching boxing anyway. BTW Acuña was robbed last night.

The organizers distributed tickets to social institutions, schools, and neighborhood clubs. They gave them away so those places could sell them at 30 pesos for ringside and 15 pesos for general admission. So it was common to see young people selling tickets outside the stadium.

So it was basically $6 or $3 dollars per ticket.
Anyway, the method they used is irrelevant. I don't see Arum getting 40k in to watch a woman's boxing match free or not.
