  • Is the Mayweather/GBP and Arum/Top Rank beef all about the money?

Is it simply down to not wanting to share the profits with eachother? Wanting to keep the biggest slices of the pie to themselves? I find it hard to comprehend how these people can claim to be wanting the best for the fans and the sport, but then in several of the most exciting (on paper) divisions they are intentionally holding apart some of the best fights to be made in the sport for years. Is it all about ego or are there acceptable reasons for it? All I know is that I want to see the best fight the best, and it seems as though we will never get that!

What's best for the fans isn't always best for business. Top Rank are by the far the worst for not wanting their fighters fighting other promotions fighters, they don't want to share the promotional money and risk their fighters losing. If one of their fighters lost to a rival promotions fighter, it devalues their promotion and adds value to the rivals.

I don't recall too many big fights involving a Golden Boy fighter and a fighter from another promoter?

Because nearly all the big fighters belong to GBP and TR, TR doesn't (for a long time) want to do business with GBP.

You guys are all a combination of ignorance and poor memory retention. You forget that Golden Balls, meaning Oscar and Schaefer, were the hounds hunting Manny Pacquiao "over hill and dale" about the PED accusations.

The result of it was when the "nitty-gritty' was demanded in court by Top Rank, Oscar collapsed into a combination of addictions and hid away in a sanitarium, from which he painfully issued a very tearful and penitent apology. This was settled by Oscar, Schaefer, and Golden Balls paying "undisclosed amounts" in settlement. (you can bet that it also included the 3% of Pacquiao fight-profits that Golden Balls had blackmailed from Top Rank)

(The same thing happened shortly afterwards with the Mayweather camp who also caved in -it must have cost them tens of millions- legal costs alone must have been already several millions).

So naturally that hurt.....and Schaefer takes every opportunity to snip away at Arum..not Top Rank mind you, but Arum, because he thinks that there's a weakness, with Arum being 82. He's been waiting for him to mentally decline so that he can jump on him, but as this is not happening, he vents his frustration the way we read on this site just about every week. Arum doesn't care, he's a lawyer and it all slides off his back. With him, business is business and he's prepared to "dance with the devil" (Schaefer) to make fights, as he has shown so many times in the past. To him the business is to promote and make the best deals for himself and his fighters possible. That's what he does.

Lou di Bella and Shaw often slanged Arum publicly and in print, but it never interfered with either of making a fight with a Top Rank boxer. Nor does it today.....

And Golden Boy doesn't do business with TR. It works both ways. People only look at it from one angle depending whose nuts they are hugging out of Mayweather and Pacquiao.

Bob Arum worked with DiBella to make Martinez-Chavez, virtually sacrificing one of his stars. That's one more big fight than I remember GBP doing with anyone else.

Everyone is aware of Arum's refusal to do business with GBP but many overlook his refusal to work with Al Haymon.

Arum works with dibella and shaw because they are not a threat too him. Golden boy promotions is. Arum is not gonna help gbp take over boxing. Thats the real reason he dont wanna work with them. golden boy has come along way since 2009
