Post Comments Thread For: CSAC To Cancel Bouts if Fighter is 15% Over Contracted Weight

One of the most prominent combat sports regulatory bodies in the world is trying to change and improve extreme weight cutting tactics. The California State Athletic Commission passed a rule Tuesday indicating that they'll cancel a boxing or MMA match if any fighter weighs more than 15% above the contracted fight weight on the day of the event.

This must specifically be towards MMA...

Even 14% is a lot of weight. 14-15% is like JCC Jr. once upon a time at 160...

For boxing the ratio should be specific for each weight not 15%. Super Fly to Bantam is 3lbs vs Welter to Super Welter is 7lbs or Middle to Super is 8lbs...

I remember Agamasa vs Rigo. I remember hearing somewhere that Amagasa was 143lbs on fight night... though that was Japan..

90% MMA fighter’s be hitting 25+ like some dummies.

It should be 5%. I believe a great deal of the deaths today is occurring due to dehydration to make weight. When you dehydrate your organs including your brain suffers. When you do this repeatedly you expose yourself to long term damage. Then to balloon up the next day isn’t ideal either. The body was not meant to function like this and the rash of deaths is exposing that fact

That's reasonable. A middleweight can't weigh 184lbs on fight night.

This is mainly being addressed to the MMA industry. It would be awkward if the CSAC didnít just include all combat sports, so thatís why boxing is being mentioned.

Jacobs, Charlo, are the biggest Middleweights. They donít even hit 178lbs on fight night. Golovkin looks about 176lbs with the biggest turtle back ever assembled at Middleweight

The boxing community has been doing a lot of talking, but they're not walking the walk:

Yeah but the article youíre referring to is specifically talking about Title fights. The danger is everywhere, moreso in prospect fatalities so far...

And, youíre referring to the second day weigh in of 10lbs max the morning of like the IBF, yet still the fighter can gain weight towards fight night.

Still, even if a Middleweight is 176lbs from 160 thatís 10%. 12-13% realm is like Callum Smith, Benavidez, or Zurdo... those guys can hit 20lb in the ring.
