Default Punch Speed is Slow

i have recently been boxing (i am a beginner only been doing for a few months) and used to hit the pads with a ton of power. But the coach taught me to focus on technique mostly and power comes as you bet better with the proper technique. i asked a friend to record me on the pads today and afterwards i was like "that was awesome that felt fast" but when i watched it back it didn't look really slow but it looked much slower than it felt. How can i improve this ?

Depends what is causing you to slow. Could be in the arms, feet, tensing too much, etc. You'd have to have your coach evaluate. You can post it here if you want feedback. Without seeing it, any answers would be wild guesses.

I agree. You should ask your coach for his evaluation. Maybe there are really no problems.

Agreed. Get an outside evaluation. I imagine if I saw myself doing ANYthing on video, I'd think I was doing it poorly. But that's just my self-critical temperament.

And if you've only just started, it's probably OK for things to not be at full speed/strength yet - that's what all the practice is for. Stick with it, and things will certainly improve.

Maybe you were pulling your hands too far back and just focusing on strength? That's usually the first error. Make sure your fist won't go beyond your shoulders and focus more on your body turning.

Ask your coach. Also start using some speed bags and do shadowboxing. You can also use resistance bands to increase your speed as well as doing pushups for explosive speed.
