Ali was also stripped of the WBA title for giving Liston an immediate rematch, as strange as that sounds.

I always thought titles should won and lost in the ring.

Also I don't think the WBA stripped Lewis for refusing to fight Ruiz. Don King got the belt for Holyfield who lost it to Ruiz.

Good spot. Lewis had issues with the WBA because he initially signed to fight Michael Grant, not Henry Akinwande the #1 contender.

Akinwande who was suffering from hepatitis, was replaced at #1 by Ruiz (both were Don King promoted fighters.)

The WBA threatened to strip Lewis, but decided against it as long as Lewis agreed to meet Ruiz after the Grant contest.

King however had different ideas and took Lewis to court as he had Lewis' signature on a contract which stated he would defend his title against the #1 WBA contender.

The court ruled in favour of King and that Lewis could not fight Grant unless he vacated his WBA title.

some low lights- the dirtbags at the WBA for stripping Mike McCallum for fighting James Toney (the IBF champ and the MW fight everyone wanted to see). My favorite- the vile scumbags at the WBC stripping Bobby Chacon of their 130 lb title for fighting their #1 rated contender (Boza-Edwards) rather than the Don King controlled #2 contender (Camache)

Dariusz Michalczewski, was WBO champion then also became WBA and IBF champ after battering Virgil Hill. WBA stripped him because they didn't want him to hold both WBO and WBA belts and then the IBF stripped him for not fighting Guthrie, of whom a US Court had ordered must receive a fight with the Michalczewski/Hill winner within 90 days because the court had declared that the IBF had been breaching their own rules.

Daniel Geale defeats Felix Sturm to add the WBA Super belt to his IBF belt, the WBA immediately orders him to fight Golovkin and strips him when he wants to make a rematch with Mundine in Australia. Sturm had been WBA Super champ for 2 years with no demands made upon him.

This doesn't seem to be so clear cut.

It seems to boils down to whether Chacon signed a contract with Don King that gave him a one fight option prior to his shot at the title against Limon.

If he did, King had stipulated the purse for that next contest at $210,000.

Chacon who made $450,000 against Boza-Edwards obviously wasn't going to accept that kind of money for Camacho.

Sulaiman gave Chacon roughly three week notice to reach an agreement for the fight or be stripped.

When he stripped the title Sulaiman claimed Chacon had been offered $450,000 and a percentage of the gate. (?)

Either way Chacon minus his title went on to face Mancini next and got a career high $575,000.

If we should list every fighter that has been stripped of their alphabet “world” title, this would be a never-ending thread.

The word corrupt in the headline sums it all up.
