At the gym I attend you have to wear head gear when sparring. Buy head gear that fits your head. I use this head gear as it has size charts:

You can get them cheaper on Amazon

In November had a rough sparring session in which I didn't wear headgear and was left feeling pretty dizzy for 2-3 days. Scary **** the first time that happens to you and you've got a tonne of work ... etc

Since then, I've bought mid-range Everlast headgear which has good reviews on Amazon and it's certainly helped although, I agree with other posters: If you get rocked hard, the headgear might prevent cuts, but you'll still feel all the effects of taking a power shot.

Had another rough session in early February and realised it wasn't the headgear but the fact we were sparring at 90-100% for 5-6 rounds. Have now taken it down to 50-60% strength for training purposes to avoid similar scenarios.

In summary, headgear will give you a little more protection but won't help when it comes to power shots. You get rocked just the same.

The same happened to me once, which is why I always wear it now.

Exactly. As most of us have day jobs the next day, for me anything I can do to minimize the damage from sparring is a no brainer.
