Nothing wrong with just being a memorable but not ATG fighter. Over 99% of all fighters who lace up will never come close to winning a world title. He has done that. Just be realistic to what he is and what he isn't. Don't let fanboyism blind you to the reality of his position in the pantheon of time. Come back when his career is over and lets see what he has accomplished by then. Hopefully he will get a true superfight against Canelo or one other fighter to be looked at in a higher esteem.

the reality is the current level of competition in boxing has far succeeded what it was back in the 70's.

boxing was pretty much an american sport(north and central). so the talent pool was relatively shallow. that is why you've heard of all the fighters, because they all spoke english and it was easy to promote them.

However, now the sport has been picked up by the eastern bloc. by the asian countries. they have produced great champions in the olympics that stretched over to the pros. little by little.

LOL @ anybody arguing the talent pool in boxing is small compared to what it was like back in the 70's. it's ridiculous.

the fact is, when creme rises to the top the faces of boxing is changing. it is no longer a domestic american product. GGG is facing far better competition than Hagler faced.

just think about it. Hagler's best wins are over welters. he even lost to one. he lost to Willie Monroe level of competition.

regular belt defenses don't count man

the ibf only had one belt and Hopkins held the title by himself and won it in the ring

GGG got elevated to wba full champion....different situation entirely

stop making up bs trying to inflate GGG thin resume

Its like a tennis fan saying djokovic is overrated, a golf fan saying tiger woods was never that great.

He is what the sports been crying out for, a top level talent, who is humble, a role model and entertains the fans.
Im struggling to think of any fighter recently, with the skill set to outbox anyone but who deliberately exchanges punches and takes shots he doesnt need to because he wants the fans to get their moneys worth. The guy even fought with the flu once because he didnt want to let fans down. GGG is always looking to land big punches and deliver a dramatic ending, theres no such thing as a safety first UD.

You should be careful what you wish for, cause sooner or later this guys going to retire and you might get a boring guy as the face of the sport, and you are going to be wishing that golovkin was still around delivering excitement
            you are right

            they'll never be another Golovkin

a potentially great fighter, moved at a slow pace, and protected, highly touted with an amazing fan base but hasn't fought the best in his division

His wba regular titles defenses and super defenses are combined to inflate his resume

He has the thinnest resume of any fighter considered top 3 p4p

            groundbreaking

will never be another GGG....the most talented hypejob in history

But there is one main difference. Hagler was involved in a high level superfight against an ATG in Hearns in a fight close in the odds. That's what GGG needs. That huge fight that creates a buzz that rocks the boxing world. That would have been Canelo if Canelo hadn't been a Prima Donna. But if he beats all the top middleweights and super middleweights and then how can he be denied? Wipe out 2 weight classes, cant deny that is great. That is ATG in my opinion.

                  He is right.
Imagine the current boxing world without GGG. Just imagine boxing as if there was no Golovkin atm. Its dry as hell. He is special.

It's sad that this thread turned into a trollwar of Golovkin haters and nuthuggers. I like the original premise of the thread. It's not that he's the greatest boxer, that he's better than fighter X, or that he has better defense than advertised, or whatever.

The point was that whether you hate hit or love him, he's undisputably one of the top fighters today who bring excitement to the sport and give fans their money's worth. That point is absolutely true.

There's a chance that he'll catch 5 losses in the next 6 fights and all the haters will skeet in their pants because it will give them a reason to cry 'hypejob'. But no matter what, he sure as hell is good entertainment.

No excuses for IGNORANCE in 2016 when we have Google and Youtube, Educate yourself on the sport and learn more about it than just the last 1-3 years

I get it, some of you are YOUNG so your Ignorance is Bliss but stop making threads declaring some BS then you will spend hours trying to convince others that what YOU THINK are some type of facts and how everybody else should agree with you or else you're RACIST or Anti the Ethnicity Of Your Favorite Fighter

A fighter will come along eventually and make you forget Pacquiao, Mayweather and other recent great fighters, athletes will continue to EVOLVE so YES it will be another guy with Power who comes along and knock everybody that is put in front of him out and people will go crazy over him as well that how boxing always been
I like the Mugabi comparison a lot! Personally, I think he's significantly better than Mugabi, but that's just my opinion. But there are some good parallels between Mugabi and Golovkin.

A lot more parallels than the people who try to say that Golovkin is Matthysse 2.0, which is absolute BS

These people aren't real boxing fans though that's what you skip, they're not interested in boxing at all they're just sad little trolls who have nothing better to do whom have no knowledge of the sport.

People would rather have someone who beats up woman, takes drugs and airs his dirty laundry for the whole world to see lol.
I think the average IQ of these type of boxing fans must be extremely low you know their is a reason they talk about boxing IQ and not their actual IQ.

You know overall it's sad that MMA, Tennis, and Golf fans have a more respectful and knowledgeable fanbase than the so called ones who follow this sport I mean we have Larry a 40yo guy going on Youtube making videos asking another member on this forum for a fight need I say anymore?
