In the mid 70's and 80's ESPN was a show case for young fighters and the 10 round main event fighters were top twenty guys.
Those guys were colorful characters that sold seats and had viewers tune in weekly.
I was on the early broadcasts from the Ice Palace before the shows moved to Atlantic City. I worked a lot of shows at the Tropicana once they moved the shows to Atlantic City, they were Donny Elbaum promos.
Good times some great match ups and sold out houses all the time. The TV ratings were high because the fighters used from prelim to main go's were willing and able.
