Everyone always said for years "Mike Tyson needs to go back with Rooney and he'll dominate again" and said Rooney was a real good trainer. They did have good chemistry and Rooney was the right guy for Tyson, but it wasn't like Rooney has proven to be some brilliant trainer. It helps when you have a phenom like a young Tyson was.
Atlas's shining moment came in the first Michael Moorer-Evander Holyfield fight. He's often credited with inspiring Moorer to win with his dramatic speeches. Well I watched the fight in full and Moorer went right out and slept-walked after the rounds in which Atlas pleaded with him. Moorer was tenative after that second round knockdown. Moorer showed more passion and heart in fights with Manny Steward and Freddie Roach in his corner. Atlas hasn't done that much with other guys like Shannon Briggs or Elvir Muriqi either. He may know a lot about the sport and technical aspects but it hasn't translated to success at the high level of the sport. He apparently likes to work with headcases but these headcases haven't really responded too well to him.
